CALL TO ACTION

The brutal Russian attack on Ukraine shows once again how important a united Europe is. The European Union has been a guarantor of peace in the member countries since World War II. It not only offers protection against internal wars, but also effective protection against aggression from outside.

It is time to take the next steps in the EU enlargement process. We need lasting peace across Europe. Therefore, the inclusion of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova as well as the Western Balkan countries is the next big goal. There are still a few hurdles to overcome on the path to membership, but we must move forward and not get stuck.

What should happen on June 19th

Before the EU summit in as many European cities as possible, people should campaign and show that they are in favor of the next EU enlargement steps. Photos and videos of actions in public spaces should be posted on social media under the hashtag #enlargeEU. Each country/diaspora can also use their own hashtag e.g. #UkraineInEU, #AlbaniaInEU etc. With this action we want to show that there are many people all over Europe who support EU enlargement. But it should also show an important European value: European solidarity. In the EU, we not only represent our own national interests, we also support each other. We are a common Europe and also act as a community.

Who can organize something?

pro-European associations and diasporas in all European countries (in member states and potential member states of the EU) and everyone who wants and supports EU expansion.

What should you do?

In your city:

Organize a small or large action (rally) on Sunday, June 19th in your city with your association, your diaspora, together with other communities. Do it alone for the country you support or do it together for several countries or as an pro-European Association do it for all countries and for EU enlargement in general.
Take photos and videos and post them using the hashtag #enlargeEU and the hashtags of the communities involved, e.g. #UkraineInEU #AlbaniaInEU etc.
Use the common design of the campaign for advertising. You can add the individual data yourself.
Inform the local media to draw attention to the issue

As part of the pan-European campaign:

Send the information about your campaign (date, time, location, contact email of the organizer, supported countries) to office@viego.eu. This information is shown in a virtual map. There you can see in which cities something is taking place and who you can contact if you want to support the campaign.
